Team 7B recreated their own version of the Greek Olympics, dividing its students into 5 teams: Athens, Kavala (Bronze), Marathon (Silver), Olympia, and Sparta(Gold).  The five teams competed in a variety of events incorporating all subject areas (explained in detail below).  It was a fun day!

*  Social Studies Component: A flag/banner was created by each team during Great Time, including symbols of Greece, their specific region and other facts they’ve learned during their Greece Unit.   Event: Art Recognition

Chicken Mummification

Mr. Vanek's Social Studies class embarked on a fun hands-on learning experience today!  As part of their Ancient Egypt Unit, 7B students began the first stage of mummifying a chicken in small groups.  Over the course of the next few weeks, the students will periodically touch base with their named chickens in order to "prepare their mummies" as an educational and creative way to learn this Ancient Egyptian tradition.

Ridge Cemetery Field Trip

Students and teachers on Team 7B ventured out to Ridge Cemetery here in Fremont as an interactive extension of the regular classroom experience.  Jim & Cherrie Clarke presented to our students the history of Mr. Tom Watts and also shared other interesting facts and answered students' questions about Fremont's history.  Following the presentation, students experienced three-20 minute rotations.  One rotation was lead by Science teacher, Ms. Kohl, where she explained the story of Mrs. Barnard and explained to students the science behind decomposition to bodies and how acid rain (currently the students are learning about Weather & Climate) affects certain headstone materials over time.  Mr. Grenier and Mr. Vanek sent the students on a historical and mathematical scavenger hunt, and Mrs. Enos showed students how headstones also function as art and students did some crayon rubbings of different headstone designs.  In the afternoon the students had each of their four core classes for a 25 minute block doing extension activities from content learned at the cemetery.
